Understanding Towing Procedures

When I started driving, I realized that I didn't really know what to do if something bad happened on the road. About three weeks after I realized that, something did. I was driving when one of my tires went flat and sent me careening out of control. After I finally got the car to a stop, I contact towing services for a little help. With their help, I was able to get back to work, get my car fixed, and learn more about what they had to offer. That experience taught me several valuable lessons, which is why I made this blog.

3 Ways To Free A Car Stuck In Mud

The weather can greatly impact daily life, especially when it comes to driving. Inclement weather can lead to a variety of driving issues, including spinning out on ice, having flooded engines from rising water, or even something as simple as getting stuck in mud. Mud is one of the more common hassles that drivers have to deal with due to the weather. Here are 3 ways to free a car that is stuck in the mud.

Create Traction

The biggest hurdle when it comes to getting a car out of the mud is the fact that it is slippery. Creating traction is one way to solve this issue. One easy and inexpensive way to do this is by keeping sand or kitty litter in the car. Placing either one near the tires stuck in the mud can increase the traction and help get the car out of the mud. In a pinch, a car's floor mats can also be used to create traction and help get the car out of the mud. If you have people with you, it also helps to have them lift and push the bumper or get the car rocking. This works in some cases but if the car is stuck deeply in the mud, further steps may need to be taken.

Utilize The Car's Jack

Another way to get a car out of the mud is by using what's already nearby to provide traction along with lifting the car using its jack. Most cars already have a jack that is meant to be used when changing tires. The jack can be used to lift the cars tires a few inches and rocks, limbs, and boards can be placed underneath in order to provide the necessary traction.

Get Towed

Sometimes there is no other choice but to call a towing service. Spinning wheels and zero movement will just get a car stuck deeper in the mud. Not calling a professional--like G A Smith Towing--soon enough can lead to car damage. It can also make it even more difficult to set the car free, which can lead to a bigger towing bill. If creating traction using the above methods does not work, then calling a towing company is the right choice.

Keeping sand or kitty litter on hand in order to provide traction is something that many drivers should consider. Lifting the car with a jack in order to place traction enhancing materials beneath the tires can also be helpful. If all else fails, a towing service can help any driver in this situation.
